My Approach

As a music teacher with over a decade of experience, my approach is all about creating a personalized, inspiring environment where students can grow at their own pace. Whether I’m teaching piano, guitar, bass, drums, or synth, I focus on balancing strong fundamentals with creativity and fun.

For younger students, I use pre-reading method books to keep the focus on the joy of playing rather than the challenge of reading music right away. This helps build confidence while gradually introducing reading skills in a way that feels easy and natural. I also love incorporating duets in lessons—playing together helps kids develop rhythm, listening skills, and the excitement of making music with others.

Every student is different, so I tailor lessons to fit their interests and goals. Some might thrive with structured exercises, while others are inspired by songwriting, improvisation, or learning their favorite songs. My goal is to help each student find their unique musical voice, while fostering a love for music that lasts a lifetime.

  • Yes! I would encourage you to do so for the first one or two lessons. After that, I prefer working with the student one-on-one because it helps develop our relationship and fosters independent thinking and self-confidence. If you would like to check in during the lesson, let me know and I’ll set up a zoom link where you can watch the lesson at your convenience.

  • I’ve been teaching music professionally since 2019, though I’ve played, written, and performed music for over 20 years. Please see the About page for more information. I’d love to answer any questions you have about my teaching method, contact me here!

  • I like to prioritize consistency over duration for anyone playing an instrument. For kids, 10-15 minutes daily is plenty to start with. For adults, it’s dependent on your individual goals, but a good starting point is 20-30 minutes a day.

Here are a few tips for practicing:

Make it a daily habit! It’s important to incorporate music practice into your daily routine. Try and set a time that’s the same every day (when you get home from work/school, right when you wake up, etc.)

Set a timer. It’s as important not to go over your practice time as it is to actually do it! You don’t want practice to feel daunting, and setting a reasonable goal and sticking to it helps to make it feel attainable.

Practicing should be fun. Setting and accomplishing small goals is important. This can be a small section of music or sight-reading a piece. Pat yourself on the back after you accomplish your goal.

Get involved! For kids, it can be rewarding for parents or friends to be interested/involved in practice. Ask what they did in their lesson, if they can play it for you, or teach you how to play it.
