About Me

Joel Henigson’s musical journey began in the vibrant town of Ashland, Oregon, where he started piano lessons at the age of four. By eight, he discovered a deep connection with the guitar, igniting his passion for music's ability to challenge and inspire creativity. Growing up, Joel explored a wide range of styles, including blues, jazz, classical, and acoustic, laying a versatile foundation that continues to influence his musical path.

Joel attended an alternative school in Ashland before earning his GED at 16 and enrolling at Southern Oregon University. His hunger for musical growth led him to Berklee College of Music, where he studied Songwriting and earned his Bachelor's degree in 2009. Since then, Joel has dedicated his life to writing, performing, and producing music, continually pushing creative boundaries.

As the guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter for Thirsting Altar, Joel has released two EPs and performed throughout Portland and Washington. He also plays bass in Old Machines and collaborates with several bands in the Portland area, constantly evolving as an artist.

With over a decade of teaching experience, Joel specializes in personalized lessons for piano, guitar, bass, drums, and synth/production. His approach blends strong fundamentals, ear training, and expressive playing, inspiring students to find their unique musical voices.

When he’s not making music, Joel enjoys board gaming, reading, weightlifting, and playing frisbee with his energetic pitbull, Wagu. His life is a testament to the transformative power of music, creativity, and the pursuit of growth.
